Robert Hopkins
Robert S. Hopkins, III, MPH, PhD,
is a qualified facilitator for LifeWings and provides CRM-based training to
physicians, nurses and other health care professionals throughout the United
States. He has 18 years of experience in aviation, aviation training, health
care quality and safety, and adult education.
Dr. Hopkins flew combat reconnaissance missions during Operation DESERT STORM
and was an Air Force pilot and aircraft commander in 17 different variants of
the Boeing EC-135, KC-135, and RC-135. In addition to flying global strategic
reconnaissance operations, he developed and taught RC-135 combat tactics. He
received both the James H. Doolittle Award for best aerospace instructional
program in Strategic Air Command and, along with his crew, the Jerome F.
O’Malley Award for the Best Reconnaissance Crew in the U.S. Air Force. After his
military service Dr. Hopkins taught history at Creighton University in Omaha,
Nebraska, and appears in television and radio programs on The History Channel,
the BBC, Fox News, CNBC, NPR, and most recently, NRK in Norway.
Dr. Hopkins has been part of the Baylor Health Care System’s (BHCS) Institute
for Health Care Research and Improvement, supporting research and operational
efforts to make health care delivery safer, more timely, effective, efficient,
equitable, and patient centered. His efforts contributed to BHCS receiving the
2008 National Quality Healthcare Award from the National Quality Forum.
Dr. Hopkins is a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with a
Master of Public Health degree in health policy and administration focusing on
quality and safety. He also has an earned Doctor of Philosophy degree in history
from the University of Virginia, a Master of Arts degree in history from
Creighton University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from
Virginia Tech.
