Patient Safety Training
Defining "Patient Safety"
LifeWings was founded in 2001 to improve the
quality of U.S. healthcare by employing methodologies from high-reliability
organizations to improve patient safety. We define patient safety as the
consistently reliable achievement of outcomes which are favorable for a patient.
To help us measure the effectiveness of our program toward that end, we utilize
standards from the
Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals
and establish goals relevant to our clients' unique areas of potential risk.
Many of the improvements we have made correlate
directly
to the Joint Commission's Quality Measures. In addition to saved lives, the accomplishment of those goals also creates a
better financial position for our clients. Following are some examples of
specific patient safety improvements we have facilitated:
“It’s [LifeWings] helped out on the quality of
care; I think it’s helped out how thorough we’ve become and how we weren’t maybe
so much in the past. I think it’s cut back on a lot of errors as far as patient
care.” Technician, ED, Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, NY 2009
How The LifeWings Program Improves Patient
Safety
The
LifeWings Patient Safety Improvement Program is based on the best practices of
High Reliability Organizations. The Program is an integrated series of on-site
training sessions for leadership, physicians, and staff coupled with customized,
site-built safety tools (checklists, communication scripts, standard protocols,
etc.) to hardwire a permanent change in the culture of your workplace. The proven LifeWings methodology improves patient safety by creating better teamwork,
communication, care processes, and system reliability.
