Critical Leadership Skills for Achieving Top Performance in Safety and
Quality”
Abstract: In order to create lasting cultural change in the organization, the
executive team and managers must be equipped with specific tools and
skills to internally lead the project. Many of these skill-sets have
been adopted from the aviation industry based on its success in reducing
critical errors.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of our session attendees will be able to:

Describe how aviation dealt with the human error by the use of Crew
Resource Management and its applicability to healthcare;

Identify actions leaders must take to improve teamwork and
communication to improve safety and quality; and

Understand the role of administrators and physician executives in
building effective teams and creating and sustaining the culture of
safety.
