Priscilla Shuler has served in teaching and leadership roles in nursing academia, health care administration and consultation since 1975. She has been instrumental in assisting healthcare organizations to develop tools and strategies to improve quality and safety while reducing cost. Her primary focus has been in the area of patient centered care with an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration. Her leadership knowledge, skill and experience have assisted organizations to create a culture of transparency and excellence.
She received a diploma in nursing from Lynchburg General Hospital, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Distinction and a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia. She received a Ph.D. in Nursing with a focus on Administration and Consultation from The Catholic University of America. She was a charter member of Sigma Theta Tau, Nursing Honor Society at the University of Virginia. She has been active in healthcare organizations and served as President of the Virginia Nurses Association.
She has previously been an Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean, School of Nursing at the University of Virginia. She was a Vice President for Patient Care Services at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, and a Chief Executive Officer for a hospital in Richmond. She retired from the University of Virginia Health System where she held the position of Associate Chief for Quality, Patient Safety and Accreditation. She previously served as the Senior Quality Advisor for the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association in Richmond, Virginia.
